The Norwalk River Rowing junior race team had a very successful regatta at the Overpeck Sprints in Leonia, NJ on Saturday, July 30th.  Almost every crew member of the 30+ member race squad entered multiple events, with many athletes winning medals, some more than one.  Norwalk crews medaled in singles, doubles and quad events and had races across 500, 1,000 and 2,000 meters.  They raced crews from CT, upstate NY, NYC, NJ and Philadelphia.  As a community based rowing program the winning Norwalk crews included a Roton Middle School girl’s U-15 quad who began their rowing careers less than eight weeks ago.

Below please see a list of all Norwalk medal winners from Overpeck.

Earlier this year, at the US National Junior Rowing Championships in Florida, two crews represented Norwalk with one bringing home a silver medal! Both crews  [women’s U-17 double of:  Faith Anderson and Ella Trudeau and men’s U-17  four of:  Austin Stanise, Dillon Bhutani, Robbie Redpath, Connor Wetzel and Samar Rokkam] qualified via the Northeast regional regatta in Lowell, MA.  The full Norwalk race squad of 50+ members faced competitors from across New England and New York, with two crews making the required standards to be invited to Nationals.  The women’s double won a silver medal in the Grand Final after advancing through the heats.  The men’s crew also faced stiff competition and was eliminated during the heats.

The Norwalk River Rowing junior race team will next race at the Sweeps & Sculls Regatta in Providence, RI on Saturday, August 6th.

Good luck to all crew members for continued success of a strong summer racing season in Providence!
