Athletes and spectators could not have asked for better days to race as they began the Spring Season at the Mercer Lake Sprints in West Windsor, NJ, this past weekend. Norwalk River Rowing was one of 39 clubs from 7 states.
The Novice Boys raced 3 boats: an 8+, a 4x, and a 3rd Varsity 4+ with the 8+ and 3rd Varsity 4+ bringing home bronze and gold in their flights. The Novice Girls had an impressive showing in the 8+ given this was the first race ever for quite a few of the girls.
The Varsity teams continued on with the Boys 2- winning silver and the Lightweight 2x winning bronze in their flights. When it came time for the qualify heats the Girls team had a Varsity 4x, Varsity 2x, and a 2nd Varsity 8+ move on to the finals.
Final races were held on Sunday in windy and much cooler conditions. The Boys Varsity 4x took first in the Petite Final and a young (8th and 9th grade) Boys 2nd Varsity 4x and 2nd Varsity 2x competed, as well. The girls in the Varsity 2x took silver while the Boys Varsity team wrapped up the day with a bronze medal in the 2nd Varsity 4+, and three silver medals in the 4x, 1x, and 2x.
Congratulations to all the Athletes and Coaches! Now let’s hear those cow bells ring at Saratoga this weekend!!
